Objective: Bess Streeter Aldrich’s novel Miss Bishop (1933) is out of print; however, the copyright is about to expire. The Aldrich Foundation intends to reprint the book and is seeking designs for the new dust jacket/cover. The winner of this competition may be utilized in the reprint of the book. 

Design Competition Guidelines

The designer will include the overall design elements of his/her choice with listed content requirements listed below. 

Front Cover must include the title of the book and the name of the author.

Spine must include the title of the book and at least the last name of author. 

Back cover must include synopsis of the story, author information, that the Foundation benefits from the proceeds, and spacing for barcode (see technological expectations for more information on barcode).

Ella Bishop came to college a healthy, country-bred girl, alive to every fresh sensation, with an infinite capacity for work, love, and understanding. Her abundant energy and devotion to learning made her a superior student, then a gifted teacher. But her smile concealed more than one youthful tragedy, and tragedy did not stop with youth. The 1941 movie, Cheers for Miss Bishop, was based on this novel. 

Bess Streeter Aldrich was one of Nebraska’s most widely read and enjoyed authors. Her writing career spanned forty-some years, during which she published over 160 short stories and articles, nine novels, one novella, two books of short stories, and one omnibus. In her work, she emphasized family values and accurately recorded Midwest pioneering history. 

The Bess Streeter Aldrich Foundation benefits from the sale of this book.
