The Drum Goes Dead (1941) This short story was published as a small book on its own and was later included in Journey into Christmas. It is the story of a small-town banker who has lost the Christmas spirit, due to the pressures of the Great Depression, but who has been asked to be Santa Claus during the school Christmas program.
